Just in time for Gamescom 2020, Blizzard is releasing a teaser for a series of animated short films. The name is WoW Shadowlands Afterlives and it tells us some stories from the Shadowlands. What will we learn? And what else will be announced at Gamescom?

Blizzard will introduce a brand-new World of Warcraft animated series later this week and at Gamescom. The new Shadowlands Afterlives series will be the first original animated series from the company. This much we can reveal after the teaser: it will be just as ingenious as all cinematics and short films Blizzard has made so far.

The Premiere

Afterlives will be shown as part of the live broadcast of the opening night of Gamescom 2020 on August 27. Much like any other big event in 2020, the famous Gamescom has switched to an online format. It'll kick off with an opening live stream from Geoff Keighley, the host of the Game Awards.

Blizzard has not yet revealed any significant details about Afterlives. Apart from the teaser trailer and the release, one can only assume that the series will focus on the four realms of the eighth expansion:

  • Ardenweald
  • Bastion
  • Maldraxxus
  • Revendreth

In the YouTube description of the teaser it says:

Just as our choices determine who we are in life – they pave the paths we take in the afterlife.

We are very excited about the four-part series and look forward to another visual masterpiece by Blizzard Entertainment. What awaits us in the Shadow Lands and their four realms? We'll know more after the premiere!
