Stage 3 of the Valorant Champions Tour is underway, and we've seen some big twists in the past few days. Fnatic and Team Liquid got eliminated in the EU Challengers 1 main event. Here are all the details.

This weekend will be full of high-level Valorant games, as both North America and Europe will see the conclusion of the Stage 3 Challengers 1. Four teams will immediately earn a spot for the Challengers Playoffs, while the remaining ones get an invitation for Challengers 2. We've already gone through some favorites for the two regions, but boy was I wrong. Europe's Valorant scene isn't what we thought it was, at least not after yesterday.

Fnatic and Team Liquid Eliminated at EU Stage 3 Challengers 1

Fnatic and Team Liquid were the best European teams during Stage 2 of the VCT. That doesn't seem to be the case in the Stage 3 Challengers 1 main event. The two teams had to go home after suffering a devastating defeat. At least we'll see them again in Challengers 2.

Fnatic Fall to G2 Esports

Oh, how the tables have turned. G2 Esports were once the best Valorant team in Europe, only to fall from grace in 2021. In the meantime, Fnatic's relatively new roster exceeded expectations by placing second at the Stage 2 Masters Reykjavik. In the past month, G2 Esports made some serious roster changes to their squad, and we can already see some great results.

Team Liquid Eliminated by FunPlus Phoenix

The formerly second-best European team had to go against FunPlus Phoenix. Team Liquid were the clear favorite for the series, but the underdogs managed to wrap it all up in just two games. FunPlus Phoenix moved further into the lower bracket, while Liquid's journey at Stage 3 Challengers 1 came to an end. At least both games were quite entertaining to watch.

What’s Next in EU Stage 3 Challengers 1?

Even without Fnatic and Team Liquid, the Stage 3 Challengers 1 main event will continue. There are only four teams left in the tournament:

  • Guild Esports
  • Acend
  • G2 Esports
  • FunPlus Phoenix

Guild Esports and Acend will fight it out in the upper bracket finals later today, July 9 at 5:00 PM CET. Right after that, we'll see the clash between G2 Esports and FunPlus Phoenix in the lower bracket at 8:00 PM CET. The lower bracket finals will take place tomorrow, while the big finale is, as usual, scheduled for Sunday, July 11.
