Independent games are now better known as indie games and there has been a huge increase in their popularity. Things were quite different a decade ago when such titles had trouble competing with their AAA rivals. The latter had a publisher and often had expectations to meet. Indie games were a wildcard, often requiring a much lower investment. The games on our list are proof that developers don’t necessarily need a publisher to make a very successful game. These titles changed the way people look at indie games forever.
