Online events are currently thriving amidst the coronavirus pandemic. With LANs out of the way, the latest online tournament announced by Beyond the Summit is the BTS Pro Series.

Beyond the Summit are well-known in the Dota 2 fields as the organizers behind DOTA Summit. The event which usually takes place in the BTS house, Los Angeles, USA. Anyone who has seen an edition of the Summit will recognize it as a more laid-back event that encourages players to feel like home. The commentators and hosts are inside a living room on a couch, so it doesn’t get more comfortable than that.

Due to the current situation with the coronavirus, LAN tournaments are simply not possible. Well, fear not because BTS has adapted accordingly and announced its next event – The BTS Pro Series.

Who's going?

While it’s not the next edition of DOTA Summit, it’ll no doubt get Dota 2 fans excited. What’s curious though is that despite being online, the event is limited to only the North/South America and SEA regions. Each of them will get a $50,000 prize pool, with the two Americas playing together instead of separately. The list of participants is already clear:

North/South America

  • business associates
  • Evil Geniuses
  • Cloud9
  • CR4ZY
  • Quincy Crew
  • beastcoast
  • FURIA Esports
  • Thunder Predator

SEA

  • Fnatic
  • TNC Predator
  • T1
  • Geek Fam
  • Reality Rift
  • BOOM Esports
  • Team Adroit
  • CR (formerly Team IO)

Teams like Fnatic and Evil Geniuses stand out as the rest are either fresh blood or trying to earn their way to the top. Fnatic were crowned champions at the last BTS event where they defeated Evil Geniuses in the winner’s bracket and OG.Seed in the grand finals.

Judging by the list, we might see Fnatic come out on top yet again.

Format

The BTS Pro Series will follow a Round-Robin group stage format, with all matches being best-of-three (Bo3). Each region will have a single group, with the bottom two teams getting eliminated at the end of the stage, the top four advancing to the upper bracket of the playoffs, and the remaining two to the lower. In the playoffs, all series will also be Bo3 with the exception of the grand finals which are set for Bo5.

Dota 2 recently received a brand-new patch with 7.25c.
