In the opening Saturday game, FC Schalke 04 found themselves outmatched. While it took a while for SK to take the lead and even longer to end the game, Schalke did little to stop them.

With a lot of teams tied in the middle of the LEC standings, both SK Gaming and Schalke 04 eyed this match as a key possible victory in their season plans. The two teams were nearly even for most of the early game and even the first major fight 9 minutes in ended with a kill for each team. As the game ramped on SK’s better positioning saw them take the kill lead. For a while, gold remained close, due to S04’s better farming numbers, but eventually it was not enough.

A prolonged teamfight that started with S04’s support dying was on the verge of being turend around when a clutch shockwave saved the fight for SK 24 minutes in. The team would essentially take over the map, taking a Baron, an ocean soul, another Baron and even the Elder drake - yet none of it was enough to finally put down Schalke. However, neither were the Royal Blues able to mount any offense of their own and after securing a second Elder drake and a third Baron, SK finally closed the game. With this win, they retain their position in the middle of the pack, though playoffs are far from guaranteed. For Schalke, however, any such hopes are quickly becoming a mirage: with a 1:10 record and only 7 games to go, it looks to be another split near the bottom of the table.
