The release of Valorant is coming in less than a day and with it, there’ll be plenty of changes. Omen getting some improvements is just one of them.
The Valorant closed beta lasted long enough for players to determine who the best agents are. It’s generally agreed that Jett, Raze, and Viper are objectively some of the worst ones you can pick. Then there’s Omen. He’s really somewhere in between more on the good side in theory, but rather inefficient in most scenarios. Well, that might be about to change with the game’s launch on June 2 (tomorrow).

Omen has a couple of issues as an agent and they all might get addressed with the upcoming update. To make it even more of a guess Morello’s description of the changes was rather unclear. The smoke targeting update is probably about his Dark Cover, meaning an optimized way of aiming where exactly to land your shadow. His smokes also had certain issues and would often fall higher or lower than anticipated most likely as a result of a targeting issue.
Then there’s Paranoia, an excellent skill on paper that suffers from bad execution. When trying to hit a target, you’d more often miss than not and even when you manage to land it, the blind wouldn’t apply for some unknown reason. His ultimate will also receive some changes, which could mean a variety of things. Better targeting? Better interaction with smokes? Your guess is as good as ours. In any case, Omen could use some buffs to make him more of a competitive pick. Right now, even if all the improvements above are applied he’ll still be an ok choice in most situations, but nowhere as good as someone like Sage or Brimstone. A team without Omen in it doesn’t suffer from anything and that basically means the agent isn’t bringing anything unique to the table.
The rest of the information in Morello’s tweet has already been covered. Reyna was revealed as the 11th agent, while the new map will be Ascent. Hitreg and fps fixes are certainly welcome, but we’re all also waiting on another update regarding Vanguard. A lot of players are still concerned that the anti-cheat might interfere with their PC hardware. Once the game launches tomorrow there’ll be even more information to work with on all fronts.
