Remember when FaZe were just buying out stars?

Olofmeister leaves, FaZe Clan going young

Olofmeister leaves FaZe

Olof “olofmeister” Kajbjer’s place within the FaZe Clan CS:GO lineup has been under fire for longer than we can remember. While a kick has been speculated for the better part of a year, it is the Swede himself that has decided to step away from FaZe.

Second time olofmeister’s done that

Olofmeister has been struggling mightily in 2020, which only empowered those shouting for his dismissal from FaZe Clan. Perhaps it is these subpar performances that triggered the player and the organization to agree that Olof should take some time off. The Swedish legend disclosed that increasing fatigue and a lack of motivation have been notable factors in the latest chapters of his CS:GO career. This is far from a retirement speech, as Olof emphasized that his love for the game is far from dead and he plans to return to the server once he’s dealt with his fatigue and motivational problems.

This is not the first such action that olofmeister has undertaken during his stint with his current team. Back in 2018 he was out for three months for undisclosed reasons. Back then Olof was a relatively fresh addition and an expensive one at that, so FaZe settled for stand-ins until their star finally returned. Well, what about now?

Olofmeister’s seat is not that warm

Whether FaZe will have room for him when Olof does decide to return is the real topic. Their pick of a player to replace him suggests they are more likely to move on than bring the Swede back in the future. The newest clan member is unknown 16-year-old Lithuanian Aurimas "Bymas" Pipiras. Not much to be said about him at this stage, except that he’s good enough at Counter-Strike to impress Nikola “NiKo” Kovač, which is usually a tall task.

The youngster joins as a stand-in at first, but FaZe opting for someone at this age instead of a well-established veteran oozes that they intend to keep the young gun should he do well for the team. The once star-chasing organization already did a similar trick when they added then 18-year-old Helvijs "broky" Saukants to the squad in September 2019, so NiKo, Marcelo “coldzera” David and Håvard “rain” Nygaard better start settling with the thought that they’ll be accompanied by a couple of teenagers.

Bymas will have all the opportunities in the world to impress his teammates. FaZe are in a DreamHack Masters Spring Europe dog fight right now. With the team seemingly improving in 2020 despite olofmeister’s subpar individual numbers, it would be curious to see whether their form dips with the new kid on the block.
