League of Legends cycles through seasons each year. Seasons mark new developments in the game and are always preceded by a pre-season in which new changes get implemented and worked on by the developers, all the while players get to test everything out without having to worry about their rank.

So what exactly are the seasons and how many are there in League of Legends? Over the years, it has become an easy-to-follow cycle, so fans know when the end of a LoL season approaches.

How Many Seasons in League of Legends are There?

Presently, there are 11 seasons in League of Legends. We are currently in the eleventh season. It’s simple to follow when looking at patch notes, since all of this season's patch notes start with an 11.

Seasons usually last a whole year. So the beginning of a season is in early January while the end of a season is usually around early November, giving developers a bit over two months to prepare for the next season.

  • These players have managed to make their name throughout the last few seasons.

How do Seasons Work in League of Legends?

As mentioned, a season is around a year. Each season is also divided into three splits. In these splits, players are able to play ranked games in which they earn points to climb the ranked ladder. At the end of each split, players gain small rewards depending on how many games they’d won throughout it.

At the end of a season, the results will also be tabulated and players gain even more rewards for having played in the ranked system. At the end of each LoL season, special skins will be given out depending on a player's rank as well as icons and emotes.

When are the Start and End Dates of Each LoL Season?

Throughout the last few years, Riot has been very consistent with the end and start dates of their seasons. The only outlier being the first League of Legends season back in 2011. Here are the dates for all the previous start and end dates of all League of Legends seasons:
