Far Cry 6 is not far away and is releasing for both the PS4 and the PS5. Can you upgrade Far Cry 6 from the PS4 to the PS5 version for free? That answer was just given by Ubisoft.
Far Cry 6 will follow the trend set by many PS5 games (and avoid the mistake almost made by Horizon Forbidden West), by allowing players to upgrade the PS4 version to the PS5 version for free. The same goes for upgrades from the Xbox One to the Xbox Series X|S:
Buy Far Cry 6 on Xbox One or PlayStation(r)4 game and upgrade to the Xbox Series X|S or PlayStation(r)5 version at no additional cost.— Far Cry 6 (@FarCrygame) September 7, 2021
Far Cry 6: Free PS4 to PS5, Xbox One to Xbox Series X Upgrade
It's probably no coincidence that Ubisoft is announcing this, just after Horizon Forbidden West pissed off fans by revealing that only the $80 super-duper-quadruple-deluxe edition of the game would be getting a free PS5 upgrade – though Sony has since gone back on their decision and also granted Horizon Forbidden West a free upgrade.
Anyway, this is great news for Far Cry 6 fans, since many won't have a PS5 or Xbox Series X|S, when the game releases: Both of the new console systems are still in high demand, while the chip production is far removed from keeping up with consumers. We might well see 2021 go by without the systems becoming readily available. With that in mind, it is only logical that a lot of people will buy Far Cry 6 for the PS4, despite planning to buy a PS5 sometime down the road and playing the game again. Having to buy the game all over would be a true slap in the face of anyone that wasn't able to get their hands on a PS5 through no fault of their own.
If you're not sure or forgot: Far Cry 6 is going to be released on October 7, and will be released for the PC, the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and Google Stadia.
