Valve finally gives us some good news!
Dota 2 Blog on Upcoming Updates: New Hero Delayed, DPC to Start in January
Valve made an official blog post on the Dota 2 website and gave us a good idea when to expect the next big update and the new hero. We also got a date for the Dota Pro Circuit.
If you’ve been waiting for the next Dota 2 hero reveal or the new patch by the end of this month, we have some bad news for you. Valve made an official post on the Dota 2 website yesterday, giving us all the details that we wanted. You can read the full statement on the Dota 2 blog.

According to it, the new Dota 2 season will be kicking off on December 1 and it’ll include a seasonal quest reset, a new seasonal treasure, and more. Part of the "more" is going to be the Overwatch feature.
"We have also started rolling in backend changes to gather data for the upcoming Overwatch features. When fully implemented, this tool will allow users to review suspicious matches and help identify bad actors, in addition to our existing systems." - Valve
Anyone who has played CS:GO is probably familiar with the Overwatch system. It allows players to review reports and go through the replay. We imagine the same thing will be happening in Dota 2 and that should make it harder for feeders and cheaters. How many times have you had a teammate feed down mid because they died once on lane? Well, with Overwatch they just might get what they deserve.
Dota 2 fans are also expecting a new hero and Valve initially mentioned late November. Just as we expected that won’t be the case. The latest hero and the 7.28 patch will be coming in mid-December.
"On the gameplay front, our original plan for the new hero was November 30th, however she needs a bit more time to cozy up for the winter. We will be releasing her, along with the 7.28 gameplay update, in mid December." - Valve
One thing stands out here and it’s “she”. This confirms that there’ll be only a single new hero and it’ll be a female one. There’s a high chance it’ll be the character we saw during the Diretide trailer, perhaps some sort of hunter?
Last but not least, Valve also addressed the Dota 2 Pro Circuit. The latter is set to return on January 18. A total of 16 teams will be split into two divisions in each of the regions (NA, SA, EU, CIS, SEA, China). The top team from each region will earn a spot for the upcoming Major. Details surrounding the event are still unclear but we’ll get more details in the future.
