Another week means another update for Warzone. So, what's getting nerfed and what's getting buffed? Are players frantically editing their classes in the pre-game, or is the meta safe for another week? Let's find out in the patch notes for Warzone's January 12 Update.

Let's be real for a moment: Warzone is in a constant state of flux. The game is chock-a-block full of broken builds ready to be discovered and nerfed. Other than Warzone's weekly playlist update (which we get every Thursday), these balance changes are implemented in regular intervals, with major changes whenever Raven Software introduce new season and mid-season updates.

What's in this Warzone Update?

The newest Update from January 12 – Warzone Update 1.51 – is the long awaited mid-season update or season 1 reloaded. It brings a new game mode, namely Vanguard Plunder, as well as bunch of important Bug Fixes and balancing changes. Especially the changes to a lot of the attachments could have quite an impact on the current meta. As always we also get a new gun and a new Operator.

New Mode

  • Vanguard Plunder
    • Works like Plunder but with the rules of other Vanguard modes – so only Vanguard weapons and equipment are allowed

New Operator

  • Isabella Rosario Dulnuan Reyes joins the S.O.T.F. Trident
    • Can be bought as part of a bundle

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed several issues causing instability on the Xbox and PlayStation platforms.
    • More fixes to come.
  • Fixed an issue that was causing crashes on the PlayStation 5.
  • Fixed an issue with the Packed Powder Attachment where it was increasing Locational Multipliers.
  • Fixed an issue with the Double Barrel (VG) where its Akimbo Gun Perk was not properly decreasing Damage.
  • Fixed an issue with the Submachine Gun Alpha (VG) where its VDD 189mm Short Barrel was incorrectly affecting Locational Multipliers.
  • Fixed an issue with the Assault Rifle Charlie (VG) where its SVT-40 PU Scope 3-6x Optic would envelop the screen while firing.
  • Fixed collision issues with various elements across Caldera allowing Players to exploit/peek/shoot through them.
  • Fixed an issue causing Players to return from the Gulag with an incorrect Loadout.
  • Fixed an issue causing Players to get kicked from the Gunsmith screen while accessing Custom Loadouts during a match.
  • Fixed an issue causing incorrect visual assets to appear for certain Store Bundle previews.
  • Fixed an issue causing incorrect description text to appear for certain Operators.
  • Fixed an issue causing placeholder text to appear below cross-platform friends on the Social menu.
  • Fixed an issue causing placeholder text to appear on various Calling Cards.
  • Fixed an issue causing some Store Bundles to appear with the incorrect Rarity label.
  • Fixed an issue preventing the “Get 3 Wins as Francis” Operator Mission from tracking progress.
  • Fixed an issue causing the Caldera Victory Exfil cinematic to end prematurely.
  • Fixed an issue causing the Match Summary button to not work.
  • Fixed an issue causing Tactical Insertion to not appear in the Field Upgrades menu.

Updated Patch Notes, January 7

Gameplay

  • Cash threshold to enable Overtime in the Plunder mode has been increased to $2,000,000, up from $1,000,000.

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed collision issues with various elements across Caldera allowing Players to exploit/peek/shoot through them.


Weapons

Besides the Double Barrel shotgun nerf, they also mention that going forward they're going to buff a lot of the Vangurd ARs, which have too much felt recoil, and they're going to nerf the MP40 and the Bren.

We would like to take a moment to discuss some of our upcoming plans as well as how our Weapon balance philosophy will be changing in Caldera. We will be looking to take on a more incremental approach to Weapon nerfs. We understand it can be frustrating to commit a great deal of time to a Weapon to have its viability completely stripped in an unexpected balance patch. We would like to reiterate that our north star is Weapon diversity. With that being said, we feel it is appropriate to announce that in the near future we will be making some adjustments to the Light Machine Gun Charlie (VG) [Bren] and the Submachine Gun Charlie (VG) [MP40]- with the intent of closing the gap between these two Weapons and their competitors. In addition, we will be toning down what is often referred to as ‘Visual Recoil’ on Vanguard Assault Rifles. We feel this will help promote a healthier, more diverse pool of mid to long-range Weapons.

Current Warzone AR Meta: STG44 (VG)

The STG44 is the M4 of Vanguard; it's fairly easy to use, not too much recoil, decent range, decent TTK, basically a great all-rounder. And it's available from level 1, so it's a good equilizer among the playerbase, something that anyone can grab and quickly level. With this build we're focusing on a weapon for long-range, but the STG makes a perfectly decent sniper support too - here's the complete STG44 weapon setup guide.

Current Warzone SMG Meta: OTs 9

Whilst not fitting into the mainstream Warzone Meta, the OTs 9 is currently Warzone's SMG Meta. When combined with the MG82, the OTs 9 becomes unstoppable when handled by competent players. Keep in mind, though, that this is a seriously pro loadout, and should only be used by those of you who really know what you're doing! The OTs 9 is best used with a setup that includes the GRU Suppressor Muzzle, the 8.1' Task Force Barrel, the Tiger Team Spotlight Laser, the KGB Skeletal Stock and the VDV 40 Rnd Fast Mag.

Current Warzone Sniper Meta: Swiss K31

It is without a doubt that the Swiss K31 is the current Warzone Sniper meta. As outlined in our Warzone Snipers tier list, the Swiss K31 is ideal to wield as your primary, while slapping around with an AK-47 (BOCW) when in closer range than is ideal with a sniper rifle. We recommend utilizing a SWAT 5mw Laser Sight, a 24.9' Combat Recon Barrel, a GRU Suppressor Muzzle, the Bruiser Grip Under Barrel, and the Airborne Elastic Wrap Rear Grip for the ultimate setup.
