New Call of Duty 2021 Game Leak: Release Date & Platforms – What We Know (UPDATED)

Call of Duty

Activision is already working on Call of Duty 2021. That should be no surprise to anyone. Now, we finally got some first leaks, and it seems the game will be a follow-up to Modern Warfare!

Yeah, yeah, yeah, we know: Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War was just released and here we are, already yapping about the new Call of Duty. Honestly though: Did you expect 2021 to not come with another CoD? Since it's already February, it's about time we finally got some leaks.

The leaks come via CoD prophet Tom Henderson:

UPDATE February 16:

Will CoD 2021 be called Guerrilla Warfare?

Another tweet from Tom Henderson suggests that the new Call of Duty 2021 could be called Guerrilla Warfare. Should the new part of the series not be a successor to Advanced Warfare and thus not be set in the future, we could expect Guerrilla Warfare according to the leaker – maybe.... possibly. It's just a rumor that hasn't been confirmed by anyone yet!

UPDATE February 4:

When Will We Learn More? Teasers in Call of Duty: Warzone?

We thought it only fair to give a shout out to some theories on how and when we will find out about Call of Duty 2021. There's discussion on various subreddits about how we will learn more about the next Call of Duty title. We expect, from previous experience, that we will begin to see an annualized release-trend, whereby game leaks begin popping up through Warzone. Last year's Black Ops Cold War was the first to launch after Warzone exploded, and used tons of interesting methods to tease what was coming.

From the bunkers, to the hidden pictures, maps, and clues hidden across Warzone's Verdansk, it became clearer and clearer over several months that a big announcement was coming. With events like E3 probably off the table for 2021, due to the Covid-19 pandemic and its associated limitations, we believe that this will be the go-ahead for early CoD 2021 announcements and teasers. Warzone is getting fixed, and will not be going anywhere anytime soon. Perhaps this could become a yearly tradition? Now... on with the article!

So with Call of Duty releases, Activision always cycles through the same developers in rotation and has each work on a separate CoD experience. Things were predictable. With Warzone and Black Ops Cold War fusing though, things got a little more tricky.

Still, Tom Henderson's tweet supports what fans had long been speculating: Sledgehammer is spearheading the next Call of Duty game.

Interestingly, Tom Henderson states that Infinity Ward and Sledgehammer are working on separate games, meaning we could see two Call of Duty games being released this year?

So what are Sledgehammer Games and Infinity Ward working on? It is likely that Sledgehammer will follow up on the tone of Call of Duty: WWII and Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, meaning we might get a game experience akin to those titles. Rumor even has it that Sledgehammer actually intended to get their game out in September 2020, but got delayed and then bailed out by Treyarch who released Black Ops Cold War instead. Considering this, Sledgehammer should be well on their way in putting the finishing touches on their 2021 CoD project.

Infinity Ward, meanwhile, might just be working on a follow-up to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. At least that would be the most logical assumption.

We don't know what to make of these leaks, but they are very plausible, seeing how Treyarch and Raven Software are busy with Black Ops Cold War and Warzone.

What is the Call of Duty 2021 release date?

With Call of Duty you can always be fairly certain that we get a release every autumn. With this Tom Henderson leak coming out at this time of the year, the Call of Duty assembly line seems to be trucking along right on schedule for a release date in autumn 2021.

What Platforms Will Call of Duty 2021 Release on?

Well you can bet your house and the cat that the game will release for PS5, Xbox Series X and PC. Whether the last gen consoles will also get to experience the new Call of Duty... hm... we're not so sure. Developing a game for two generations poses difficulties for developers. Then again, Sledgehammer was allegedly already planning to release the upcoming Call of Duty last year, so it seems likely that it could still see a release for PS4 and Xbox One.
