Call of Duty: Vanguard launches with a ton of classic WWII guns. But for every gun, we have an astonishing amount of attachments to choose from, and we can use ten at once. So, where do you even begin? What attachments do you need? Don't worry, we'll give you all the answers in our Vanguard weapon setup guides. And today: the MG42.
The MG42 is the strongest of the LMG we've seen so far; it has great recoil control, a beastly rate of fire, and it's nowhere near as slow as it could be. It also has 125 rounds in the magazine - so you can pretty much throw lead at everyone and everything, and with this game's destructible environmental mechanics, that's going to net you at least a couple of kills.
Check out our tier ranking of every weapon in Vanguard for an idea of how well the weapon places. Needless to say, it's high enough that we think this makes a solid choice for any player to start leveling.
The MG42 Attachment Setup
- Muzzle: Mk.2 Stablizer
- Barrel: Krausnick 450mm B42MG
- Optic: Slate Reflector
- Stock: Krausnick S91MG
- Underbarrel: Heavy Foregrip
- Magazine: 13MM Anti-Material 125 Round Drums
- Ammo Type: Hollow Point
- Rear Grip: Fabric Grip
- Proficiency: Tight Grip
- Kit: Defender
With this setup, you get a bit more range and bullet velocity, and the mobility is also increased quite a bit. The magazine is probably the most interesting here, as it makes the weapon a bit more difficult to control, but it does a lot more damage and therefore brings the TTK down significantly. The subsonic ammo saves us the silencer. Overall, this setup provides us with the most powerful LMG in CoD: Vanguard at the moment. As soon as something changes in the build, we will of course update our setup guide.

The Equipment & Perks On An MG42 Loadout
From what we've played so far, the meta loadout will look something like this:
- Secondary Weapon: Machine Pistol
- Lethal: Thermite
- Tactical: Stuns
- Perk 1: Ghost
- Perk 2: Radar
- Perk 3: Demolition
- Field Upgrade: Armour Plates
The above will almost certainly be the multiplayer meta for an MG42 loadout unless they make serious balance changes. The Armour Plates in particular are in need of a nerf, but whether one comes... we'll have to wait and see.
