The Kar98k is one of those Call of Duty: Warzone weapons that is a bit difficult to categorize. It's not a sniper, but it's not an assault rifle either. So what is it? How to maximize its abilities? We're gonna tell you here.

Yeah, we know that DMRs are kind of a weird weapon class in Call of Duty. Less damage and range than a sniper rifle and much lower rate of fire than an assault rifle. You often ask yourself, why not pack the Grau, M4A1 or the HDR instead?

The special thing about the Kar98k is that it can actually be played like a sniper. The damage to the upper body and head is the same as that caused by an HDR or AX-50 - within the effective range of course. The range is a bit lower than regular sniper rifles, but still high enough to be usable. A headshot with the Kar98k is enough to bring down an enemy in Warzone. The big advantage of the Kar98k is that it reloads much faster than a sniper. You have a better chance at recovery if the initial shot misses or doesn't kill the enemy straight away.

Range and mobility is what you want from your sniper...that isn't a sniper. (Image credit: Activision)

With this setup you have an immensely powerful weapon in Warzone, which can replace a sniper depending on your playing style. It maximizes effective range, but still offers greater mobility than any sniper rifle:

  • Muzzle: Monolith silencer
  • Barrel: Singuard Custom 27.6"
  • Scope: Variable Zoom
  • Stock: FTAC Sport Comb
  • Perk: Sleight of Hand

The silencer and barrel are essential as they both increase the range of the Kar98k significantly. As you can see in the picture, the range is almost completely maxed. The recoil is also reduced by the barrel, which makes it easier to refill the barrel quickly. The stock increases your speed when aiming, so quick-scopes are very much possible and you are much more agile than with the HDR for example.

Since the Kar98k is intended to replace the sniper in your loadout, we recommend using a sight. The Variable Zoom sight is an excellent choice. If you can handle the rear sight and front sight, you can exchange this attachment for the Tactical Laser, which gives you even more mobility. Finally, the Sleight of Hand perk has to be taken along, because the Kar98k reloads each cartridge individually. You'd want that to happen as fast as possible.

In Warzone, this setup gives you a faster sniper that can take out enemies at a distance with one or two shots. Needs more work for multiplayer, though. Better mobility is a must. We'd recommend the Tactical Laser, a shorter barrel, and the patterned grip tape.
