According to a recent job listing
Apex Legends is coming to next-gen consoles
The popular battle royale shooter by Respawn Entertainment will be making its way to next-gen consoles. Or so it seems.
The time of next-gen consoles is almost upon us as both PS4 and Microsoft have a planned release in 2020. For Sony, it’s rumored to be between October and December, while the new Xbox will supposedly come in late November. It comes as no surprise that many games are already planning ahead of time and Apex Legends is one of them.
According to a job-listing by Respawn Entertainment, the studio behind Apex Legends, Titanfall, and most recently Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, the company was looking to hire Senior Rendering Engineers. The ad may be no longer open but the description is still there.
Respawn is looking for Senior Rendering Engineers to push next-gen platforms and the PC to their limits on Apex Legends.
It certainly doesn’t mention Playstation or Xbox directly but there are no other next-gen platforms besides those two. At least not coming in 2020. Respawn are trying to cover all fronts as the studio is already hard at work on a mobile version of Apex Legends and reportedly crossplay. The next-gen port will probably follow the release of the consoles themselves, so a good guess might be early 2021. It’s all rather complicated with the current coronavirus pandemic as most developers had to reschedule and delay releases.

The title is one of the top competitors in the battle royale genre ever since it launched back in February 2019. It brought some new ideas which inspired giants like Fortnite to also implement them. For over a year the game has built a name for itself – offering smooth gunplay, plenty of lore and regular events to keep things fresh. Apex Legends is currently in its fourth season which will come to an end in less than a week. Season 5 is set to release on May 12 along with the new playable legend – Loba.
