A Free to Play Breath of the Wild Clone, Blockhead Invasion & Amazon Failure

Let's EarlyGame talk this week in gaming over. (Image Credit: Genshin Impact, Sony, Minecraft, CD Projekt Red)

What a week. Or am I just saying that as a standard phrase to start this entry? Let’s find out by going over this week's highlights.

Save your money because Genshin Impact and Rogue Company are two quality games that are entirely free to play. That's the good news. The bad news: Amazon won't get you your Xbox Series S/X and PS5's on time. That's ok though, because you can now smash with Minecraft's characters.

Let’s do this:

Is this the new Free To Play standard?

When Genshin Impact was first announced everybody was like ‘OMGZ it’s a Breath of the Wild Clone!!!!11 and now the game is here and… it’s a Breath of the Wild clone. But: That’s a good thing, because it basically boils down to: If Breath of the Wild were free, would you play it? Genshin Impact is a no-brainer and a game that could easily cost money, yet it is entirely free to play. Yeah sure, you can spend a pretty dime on cosmetics and characters, but you really don’t have to. This is the anime version of Breath of the Wild we didn’t know we needed because we thought that Breath of the Wild was already the anime version of Breath of the Wild. Confusing? Don’t think about, just go download Genshin Impact for PC, PS4, Xbox or your mobile phone.

Minecraft is officially everywhere now

Minecraft comes installed on school-notebooks and if that weren’t enough already, the blockheads are now invading Smash: Steve, Alex and Zombie from Minecraft are the new playable characters in Smash Bros Ultimate and the internet made a big fuss of it: Twitter crashed. Yes. Not even Trump’s Corona infection managed to do that, but some blockhead named Steve did. Go figure… (and go watch the video).

‘You will not receive your PS5 and/or Xbox on time’ - Jeff Bezos, kind of...

You know what billion dollar companies don’t do? Tell you that they won’t be able to provide a service that you already paid for but can still cancel. Yet, this is exactly what Amazon did. They sent emails to all Xbox Series X/S & PS5 pre-orderers (is that a word? It should be a word) that they will not be getting their next-gen systems on time in November. Now, call me a conspiracy theorist, but reading between the lines, what Amazon is really saying here is: We hope we can even get you the system for the freaking Holidays.

So what does this mean? Cancel your preorder and try your luck at the store? I don’t know. Why would I know? All I know is that you shouldn’t take that week off work just yet - your delivery might not arrive and you could be stuck at home twiddling your thumb or whatever it is you twiddle.

Broke? Try Rogue Company

Rogue Company is officially free to play now. A good move by Hi-Rez, since nobody was paying for the damn game. Don’t let that fool you though - the game is actually legit, it’s just that the standard for games that cost money has risen. Basically, if it ain’t The Last of Us or Cyberpunk it should be free. Arguably, Hi-Rez should’ve released Rogue Company for free from the start, because there is a lot to like here:
The game is essentially Valorant in third person… which means it is also CS:GO in third person. Also, it looks like Fortnite. So really it’s the best of all shooting-worlds and if you don’t believe me, try the tactical shooter for free and thank me later.
